Orders, Decorations, and Honors

of the Kingdom of Altland

The Most Noble Order of Jerg Augst

Instituted by George I Amadeus at the time of his coronation, The Most Noble Order of Jerg Augst, named in honor of the first Altlandic monarch, from whom all extant noble houses of the Kingdom of Altland are descended, is the highest honor conferred by the Crown. Membership in the Order is restricted to Sovereigns, members of the Altlandic nobility above the rank of Viscount, and those commoners who have served with extraordinary distinction in the highest offices of state. The Order is divided into three ranks: Sovereign Knight Grand Cross (awarded only to reigning legitimate monarchs or their spouses) , Knight Grand Cross (reserved to nobility), Knight Companion (available to commoners). The number of members of the lower two classes of Knights together may never exceed twenty-four.

The Royal Georgian Order of Merit

The Royal Georgian Order of Merit was established in 263 by His Altlandic Majesty, George II Victor, in honor of his father, George I Amadeus, whose crowned profile appears at the center of both the cross and the star of the order. It is the highest non-chivalric honor conferred by the sovereign. All distinguished Altlanders and citizens of foreign countries are eligible for election, new members being announced annually through the New Year's Honors List. Distinct forms of the cross are awarded for specific areas of achievement; however, all members are considered to be of the same rank and wear a star of the same form. The military cross is awarded to members of the forces only for distinguished service outside of combat.

The Noble Order of St. George

The Order of the Crown of Romandia

The Noble Order of St. George is the oldest Order of the Kingdom of Altland. Membership may be conferred by the sovereign on nobility whose titles originated in the kingdoms which made up old Kingdom of Altland before its union with Romandia, on sovereigns of those nations which maintained relations with these kingdoms, on their designated heirs, and on commoners whose ancestry can be traced to the old Kingdom of Altland and who have distinguished themselves for their Altlandic patriotism or for signal service to the sovereign. It is conferred in three classes: Sovereign Knight Commander, Knight Commander, and Knight Companion.

The Order of the Crown of Romandia, the highest order conferred in the Kingdom of Romandia during the period of its independence, is now an Altlandic order of equal honor with the Noble Order of St. George, and is identical to it in purpose and structure. It is conferred on Romandian subjects who have distinguished themselves for patriotism or signal service to the sovereign and on foreign royality of nations which formerly had friendly relations with the Kingdom of Romandia. The membership of the High Order is divided into: Knight Grand Cross Royal, Knight Grand Cross, and Knight Companion.

The Most Illustrious Order of the Dove

The Honorable Order of the Golden Pine

The Most Illustrious Order of the Dove, which claims historical continuity with a chivalric order of the same name which existed in the ancient Kingdom of Norrik, is now the second in rank of the Old Altlandic orders and may be conferred upon subjects resident in the territories of Old Altland, as well as on persons of Old Altlandic ancestry resident elsewhere, in recognition of outstanding contributions to the common good of the Teuts-speaking people of the kingdom. It is composed of two classes, Knight and Member (which does not confer the title "Sir") and is usually conferred on civilians.

The Honorable Order of the Golden Pine, which began as the chivalric order of the ancient Kingdom of Montemar, is analogous in structure and purpose to the Old Altlandic Order of the Dove. It is normally conferred upon persons of Romandian ancestry or residence for outstanding contributions to the common good of the Romança- speaking people of the kingdom, but it may also be awarded to foreigners who have served the interests of the Kingdom of Altland or of the Altlandic Family of Nations. Like the Order of the Dove it has two classes of membership, Knight and Member (which does not confer the title "Sir"), and is normally reserved for civilians.

The Military Order of the Black Cross

The Heroic Order of the Endless Knot

The Military Order of the Black Cross, formerly the Sovereign Military Order of the Knights Defenders of the Holy Cross, was also known popularly in Old Altland as De Ordn Teutsce Rydar. Presently, membership is conferred by the Sovereign, upon recommendation of the Chancellor for the Forces, as the Kingdom of Altland's highest purely military honor. The membership is divided into three classes: Knight Commander and Knight Companion for officers, and Companion of Honor, which does not carry with it the title of "Sir" and is reserved for the soildiers from the ranks. Membership in the Order is accorded only to subjects of the Altlandic Crown.

The Heroic Order of the Endless Knot, was a quasi- mystical, chivalric religious order of knights originating in the Kingdom of Ennarland, later taken under the protection and patronage of the Kings of Montemar, and later still adopted in a somewhat altered form by the Kingdom of Romandia. The Heroic Order now functions as the second highest military honor conferred under the Crown of Altland. Membership is awarded in two classes, Knight of Justice and Knight of Honor, to both officers and men of the ranks. It has occasionally been awarded also to members of foreign forces who have rendered signal services to or with the military forces of Altland.
