Military Medals

Currently Awarded by the Kingdom of Altland

 

The George Cross	The George Cross is the Kingdom's highest non-chivalric combat decoration. It is awarded for heroic conduct in battle above and beyond the call of duty.	The Star of Altland	The Star of Altland, second highest non-chivalric military honor, is awarded in recognition of an act of conspicuous valor or gallantry above and beyong the call of duty. (Such an act need not have been performed in battle.)	"Virtuti Militari"	The medal "Virtuti Militari" is awarded to those who, in the judgment of their superiors, have consistently distinguished themselves by their performance of their military duties with devotion and valor. (Often awarded upon retirement.)
The Crimson Cross	The Crimson Cross is awarded to military personnel wounded in combat in the course of carrying out an act of conspicuous gallanty.	The Silver Star	The Silver Star is awarded to military personnel who, in the opinion of their superiors, have compiled at least a ten-year record of consistently outstanding service in the perfomance of their duties.	The Military Cross	The Military Cross is awarded to those who, in the opinion of their superiors, have displayed unusual courage or devotion in the discharge of their military duties.
TThe Casualty Medal	The Casualty Medal is awarded to all military personnel injured in the line of duty. (Such injury need not have occurred in combat.)	The Victory Star	The Victory Star is awarded to all military personnel who have participated honorably in a combat role during a victorious military compaign.	The Restoration Medal	The Restoration Medal has been awarded to those actively involved in the restoration of His Altlandic Majesty, George II Victor. It is the only one of these decorations also awarded to civilians.
Overseas Expedition Medal	The Overseas Expedition Medal is awarded to military personnel who have participated in a military mission outside the territory of the kingdom, including Port Marie and Disonda.	Humanitarian Service Medal	The Humanitarian Service Medal is awarded to military peronnel who have participated in non-combat missions such as disaster relief, public works projects, and rescue efforts on land and sea.	Honorable Service Medal	The Honorable Service Medal awarded to all military personel after ten years of sevice with an unblemished record. For each subsequent such period of five years, a bronze star is affixed to the ribbon.
Afrazure Campaign Medal	The Afrazure Campaign Medal is a commemorative decoration awarded to all military personnel stationed away from home in the Altlandic Protectorate of Afrazure.	Phenixia Campaign Medal	The Phenixia Campaign Medal is a commemorative decoration awarded to all military personnel stationed away from home in the Altlandic Protectorate of Phenixia.	Training Medal	The Training Medal is awarded to all military personnel who have distinguished themselves in their mastery of military skills during their period of training. For distinction in specialized training, bronze stars may be affixed to the ribbon.

NOTE: Because the Kingdom of Altland has not been involved in a declared foreign war during the past sixty years, the George Cross (established in 263) has never been awarded, the Crimson Cross has been awarded only rarely, and the Victory Star has not been awarded since the year 246. It is relevant to point out, however, that by a decree of the Chancellery for the Forces, combat decorations may be awarded to members of the Royal Guards for wounds or acts of bravery which occur as they are carrying out police functions at home or abroad.
