The New Phenixian Currency

Le Nouveau Phenixiphranc

At issuance, the New Phenixiphranc was pegged to the Altlandic Pende at the rate of

1 New Phenixiphranc (symbol, Ø) = ¶ 0/4.8

Coins

One New Phenixiphranc is a bronze coin with the profile of Mlle. Phenissa and the inscription "REPUBLIQUE PHENIXIENNE" on the obverse and the denomination expressed in both words and numeric symbols on the reverse. In the interest of showing detail, the coin is pictured above at twice its actual size. Denominations of Ø 2.00 and Ø 5.00 are also being issued, struck in a nickel/steel alloy and 1.25 and 1.50 times the size of the bronze 1 Phenixiphranc piece respectively.

The New Phenixifranc is a decimal currency divided into 100 centimes. Pictured above is the obverse of the copper alloy one centime coin, whose obverse bears the inscription REPUBLIQUE PHENIXIENNE and the numeral 1. The other decimal coins, issued in 5, 10, 25, and 50 centimes denominations, are identical to this in design, except for the numeral on the reverse, but graduated in size according to value. The five centimes piece is also of copper, the others all of a nickel/steel alloy.

Other denominations are of the same design, but tinted in various colors, like the blue Ø 20.00 note below: Ø 50.00, green; Ø100.00, violet; Ø 500.00, gold; Ø 1000.00, grey.

Les Nouveaux Timbres-Postes Phenixiens

Pictured above are the first two postage stamps issued in the name of the Phenixian Republic: the regular first-class letter stamp and the Independence commemorative. The basic postal charge for a first class letter of normal weight (equivalent to two pages of sub 24 typing paper and an envelope of similar stock) is Ø 1.00 even. The bulk rate (always metered) is Ø 0.50 per item, a rate intended to discourage "junk mail." Parcel post is handled exclusively by private delivery companies who compete with one another to offer the public the best service and the most favorable rates. By a law enacted under the Altlandic Protectorate and still in effect, however, these private delivery companies may not carry ordinary first-class letters.
