Following a long period of anarchy, a concert of powers intervened and eventually divided the empire into three parts, the northernmost being absorbed by the neighboring nation of Brolecia, the westernmost, renamed Yellow Melania (q.v.) being placed under the administration of the Yellow Free State, and the remainder, including the metropolitan district of the capital, Sedhiou (now Medhinou), at the mouth of the Elephant River being entrusted to the administration of Altland as a protectorate and renamed Afrazure Altlandique (q.v.). An associated republic of the Federated States of Dascunya, it has its own independent government. After the Dauvinitz Treaty, the Ançaldan people voted in a referendum to be integrated again into Dascunya but with the status of Associated Republic. In the Scevrenika Treaty, the FSD recognised Ançalda as a Federated Republic integrated into the Federated States of Dascunya, with an independent government, its own police, and its own sanitary, tax, and coast-guard services. of the UPRMI located on the pennisular region in the south, on
the island next to the bulk of Bowdani, holding a special political
status in UPRMI and possesing Arcadia City, Kellyport Free Economic
Zone, and the smaller towns of Bettyport, Angel Mines, and Toka'ii
Station. A small group of mountains on the southern edge separates
it from Bowdani proper. The culture of Arcania was not considered
theologically or historically Maritimian even though it was part
of the UPRMI state in the modern political sense. Therefore,
while the people in it were citizens of the UPRMI, the territory
itself did not gain the extra protections given in environmental
laws, regarding non-visitation, &c. It also did not enjoy
representation in the upper house of the legislature, which was
based on geographic lines. Economically, it was the most modern
and up-to-date region of the country, with an extremely high
standard of living, a large monorail system, agricultural plantations,
and other infrastructure systems in place, in contrast to the
UPRMI as a whole, which was still "very underdeveloped."
