The Royalty and Nobility

of Altland

His Altlandic Majesty, George II Victor

of the House of Vittorino-Montemar

(now gloriously reigning)

His Majesty is now in the thirty-eighth year of his reign. He succeeded his father, George I Amadeus, upon the latter's abdication and retirement to the Royal Abbey of St. Victor, the Queen mother, Marie Rose Blanche of Estgorth, having ruled as regent during the last ten years of her husband's reign. His majesty, once he had attained his eighteenth year, declared his majority and dismissed the government of his mother. He appointed his mentor, Hijnrik, Lord Gryfyn, to the office of Arch-Chancellor, or head of government. Upon the sudden death of this irreplaceable friend and servant four years thereafter, the King personally assumed direction of the royal government and has continued to remain at its head it ever since, to the general satisfaction of the kingdom.

In the tenth year of his reign, the King announced his intention never to marry and to return the kingdom, upon his demise, to its ancient custom of electing its monarch from among the ranking members of its several ancient provincial ruling houses. Exactly how this election is to be carried out has not yet been determined, although it is currently the subject of extensive consultations between the King and the chief statesmen of the realm. The promulgation of the royal election statute is anticipated before the end of the present decade.

The present king, last representative in the direct male line of the ancient House of Vittorino-Montemar, is the descendant of Jerg, called "Augst" (George Augustus), the first ruler of the Christian Teutens more than a thousand years ago. About a third of the nobility, including all those currently governing provinces, are also descended from this legendary (but nonetheless unquestionably also historical) figure. The establishment of a unified monarchy and the succession of rulers will eventually be recounted at greater length once the "History" compiled by Tocitys Spelmon and Anna dela Belterra under commission from the Royal Society for Historical Lore is translated from the original Altlandic languages and made available to the international public. Given below, however, is the table of Altlandic ruling families.
