Religion : There are three main religions practiced in Afrazure: orthodox and reformed Cruisianity, overwhelmingly by adherents of the Church of Altland; the Religion of Moùn, closely related in customs and beliefs to the Moun religion of Djeriga, and traditional animism, especially strong in northern jungle provinces.

For some time now, all religions are have been legally tolerated as long as their adherents have abided by the four "Rules of God," ancient precepts forbidding public denigration of other religions, aggressive proselytizing, gross immorality and sedition. An attempt was made to preserve a balance of influence among the three principal religions by having the Emperor convert to Reformed Christianity while his spouse remained an animist and the office of Prime Minister was guaranteed to a Follower of Moùn. Not suprisingly, the Heir Presumptive, Prince Youssef, has converted recently to the Church of Altland.

This experiment was not, however, very successful, and under the anarchic conditions of recent years, religious animosity surfaced frequently and culminated both in the unwilling "conversion" of many animists in the hinterlands to the Religion of the Moùn and in a series of murders and other atrocities visited upon Christians who lived outside the major population centers. In general orthodox (Church of Altland) and Reformed Christians are most numerous in the cities, Followers of Moùn among the fair-skinned the nomads, and animists amongst the sedentary tribes of the southwest coast and the northern hinterlands.
