History : The nation called Al Iffriquiyah al Azraq in Afrazlala, its principal native language, was an ancient empire based on trade carried out according to long-established commercial bonds that existed among the nomadic tribes of the interior, the masters of caravans and the city merchants of the coast. This trading network was, according to venerable legends, established by a remote northern ancestor of the royal house which has ruled the country until recently, when widespread unrest toppled Emperor Mounir II. Under him, the nation, known to the outside world as "Africablue," (an inelegant rendering of its Afrazlala name) was a member of the now long-defunct "Sainte Alliance."

Having for a while tolerated the poltical chaos which had engulfed "Africablue" and resulted in significant destruction of human life and property, a consortium of nations, including the Kingdom of Altland, which had a stake in the welfare of the far-off land through the presence in it of numerous Church of Altland missionaries, decided on the formal deposition of the by then practically powerless emperor and a partition of his territory. After secret negotiations, carried on for Altland by Sir Alexander Alexicot and Sir Rijnheld Kenigsthral, the northern two-fifths of of the land was incorporated into neighboring Brolecia, the westernmost fifth was ceded to the Yellow Free State, its neighbor to the east, and the remainder, including the traditional capital of Medhinou, was made a protectorate of the Altlandic Crown. This arrangement was given the sanction of a UNVCOCN finding and and vote of the Security Council.

The first Altlandic Governor General was Sir Genthar Jengling, formerly Altland's Acting Chancellor for Diplomatic Relations. He was succeeded by the present Governor General, Sir Herald Oksenstal, formerly commander of the Allandic Expeditonary Force which came to the aid of the country in the year 300. Meanwhile, the youngest and most promising of the former emperor's sons, Youssef, was has been brought to Altland at educated at the Royal University of Komdn, where he took a First in the famous PPE (Philosophy, Politics, and Economic) school at the end of Trinity Term, 303, and has gone on to read Law with a view toward attaining the prestigious J.C.D. (Doctor of Civil Law). Prince Youssef now formally holds the status of Heir Presumptive to the throne of Afrazure, but when and under exactly what title and form of government is yet to be determined.
